Harley guys seem to like CanAm'ers

When I had my Honda red VFR sport bike, Harley guys never greeted me on the road. They do now and I am not sure why.

On our recent trip we ran into a number of Harley riders at rest stops, fueling stations and other places. We always found them to be friendly and this time round a lot more talkative.

Two guys asked a lot of intelligent questions about my machine and another said he would seriously consider owning one but his budget would only allow a used Spyder. I tried to steer him in the right direction on that topic.

We even had a group on Harleys ask if they could pose for photos beside our Spyders when we gassed up in Cherokee NC. They had a great picture taking session.

Contrast this to two couples we met on triked Gold Wings at a lookout on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Not very friendly and one rider told me he had checked out a Spyder but said it didn't compare to his triked Gold Wing. "Canadian trash, compared to my Wing", he said.

My wife pulled me away before I could answer. Probably a good thing.

I have both a spyder and a harley and ride with both groups. Most HD people are cool with spyders, especially the older crowd. The "weekend pirates" not so much.....haha.
Honestly, its the older spyder crowd, especially those that have never owned anything other than a spyder, that seems to have more of a "I'm better than you" attitude when I show up for a ride on my harley. Its a mixed bag of nuts for sure.

Personally, I could care less what someone rides. However, Ragged out, non maintained machines, or squid riders. I try to avoid those rides. Breakdowns because you don't maintain your machine, or crashes because you ride like an a-hole ruin rides.

Likely because of the stigma that most squids ride sport bikes. Not necessarily totally true because most of the best riders in the world ride sport bikes, but........ Stunting and youtube don't help much either....lol

I think there are alot of Harley riders that are getting a little older and can;t safely handle the two wheeler and have switched to a spyder. (baby boomers) They still choose to ride and the can am is a good alternative. This is my case. Harley for can am

Never ran into a hostile or nasty HD rider up close and personal. Some wave on the road, and some don't. Also have run into a few stuck up GL riders. Wonder if this is a new trend?

All the Harley guys I know LOVE it when I ride with them.
My Spyder attracts a lot of attention, and they can finally get gas and go to the bathroom without getting bothered by all the tourists.

If I had to put numbers to it I would guestimate (Southeastern PA only)

90 % of sport bikes wave or wave back. Although there was a single time a guy gave me the finger. I laughed so hard I almost had to pull the bike over.

80 % or cruisers wave or wave back. Depending on their gear.

The true orange and black, denim and leather crowd is probably around 75 %

Then again I have a gray denim WWR vest on with all the patches and pins so that might skew the results.

The only time anyone has ever said anything negative was twice. Both times it was young guys in POS pick-up trucks. One of those times I was sitting at a light with a friend on a Harley next to me. He gave them the finger and said "He's just mad because he can barley afford that junker, mush less a nice bike like yours."
